Gordon Cheung's Masterplan is a sweeping vision of a world built and perhaps undone by modern ambition. Created just before the 2008 financial crisis, the work layers pages of stock listings into the very fabric of the canvas, turning the language of global markets into the terrain of a vast, dreamlike landscape. At the center, two figures stand before a glowing orb that feels part machine, part celestial body. Around them, ancient rock formations and radiant skies blur the line between the natural and the digital, suggesting a civilization caught between creation and collapse. Cheung's mix of traditional painting, digital printing, and financial media gives Masterplan a unique tension: it's both beautiful and foreboding, meditating on how technology, power, and human desire shape the world we build and the one we might lose.
