Desert Sandstorm also known as Arizona Sandstorm is actually Dolomite. Also called Wave Dolomite or Rolling Hills Dolomite, this is the rock version of Dolomite that also includes "impurities" such as Calcite, Quartz and Feldspar. Named after French mineralogist Deodat de Dolomieu, who first discovered it in 1791, this sedimentary carbonate rock is found throughout the world. This beautifully patterned example features a very unique shape and an outstanding polish. The twisted, almost psychedelic, patterns are evocative of a desert sandstorm, and the southwestern palate of colors ranging from rust to brown seem to pop right off the smooth but undulating surface of this natural artwork. The piece displays vertically on its sawn bottom.
