Description
Fossil Whale ToothMiocene
Intercoastal Waterway
Near Savannah, Georgia, USA
4.45 x 1.33 x 1.19 inches (11.30 x 3.39 x 3.02 cm)
This is a Miocene aged fossil Sperm Whale tooth which was discovered in the Intercoastal Waterway just south of Savannah, Georgia. These Whale teeth are commonly found associated with Megalodon and other shark teeth but are much rarer. While this tooth came from a Sperm Whale, identifying it to the genus level is impossible because there were 14 known genera of Sperm Whales living in the past compared to the two remaining today. The size and shape of teeth between these types overlap significantly. This particular tooth is in exceptional condition with a lovely black hue across the whole surface and some wear to the remnant tip. Measuring well over 4 inches (11.30 cm), this is a fantastic and wonderfully unique collecting opportunity.
