This substantial example of a dorsal Tylosaurus vertebra is perfectly formed and completely symmetrical and complete, with a light brown coloration. Tylosaurus, a genus of mosasaur that prowled the seas in the Late Cretaceous, was a fearsome predator of the deep that is closely related to modern-day monitor lizards and snakes. At over 4 inches (10 cm) wide, this single vertebra speaks to the overall size that this creature must have possessed.
