The posy holder, or carriage vase, was a gift to Princess Louise Josephine Eugenie (1851-1926), the only surviving child of King Charles XV of Sweden and Norway and Louise of the Netherlands, on the occasion of her 18th birthday and marriage to Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark (1843-1912), future King Frederick VIII of Denmark.

Dated August 11, 1869, the vase is inscribed in Danish:
Live Your Life as the Flower Here, Without Sorrow or Loss. Hopes for the Future and Bright Dreams Connect to your Name.

This remarkable piece was passed down to Princess Dagmar of Denmark (1890-1961), the youngest child of Queen Louise and King Frederick VIII of Denmark. Princess Dagmar married Jørgen Castenskjold, Master of the Royal Hunt, (1893-1978) and it is their eldest son Christian Ludwig Gustav Fritz Castenskjold who has brought the posy holder into public view for the first time since it's creation.

Property from the Collection of Connie McNally, Rancho Santa Fe, California

Condition Report*: In overall excellent condition and very finely worked. This posy holder is truly exquisite, while the interior shows evidence that it was used for it's intended purpose and not merely commemorative or symbolic.
