Description

Variscite, Crandallite & Wardite Slice
Little Green Monster Variscite Mine, Clay Canyon
Fairfield, Sunshine Mining District, Utah County
Utah, USA

The Little Green Monster Mine in Utah is the TYPE locality for Variscite and has long been revered for producing some of the finest specimens ever unearthed. This exceptional, polished slice hails from that storied and now-exhausted deposit-a locality that adds significant rarity and historical weight to the piece. Expertly polished on both faces, this semi-triangular specimen presents a mesmerizing interplay of color and form. Vivid, slightly bluish-green Variscite sections fill the composition, framed by linear bands of yellow Wardite and robust sections of bluish-gray Crandallite. The result is a richly layered, Phosphate-based mineral assemblage that is both visually captivating and mineralogically significant. Natural cavities and subtle surface undulations on both sides preserve the specimen's organic character, offering a compelling contrast to the lustrous polish. With the mine long depleted, material of this caliber now surfaces only through the release of long-held private collections-as is the case with this superb example. Weighing 192 grams, the specimen is complete, highly aesthetic, and in excellent condition, representing a rare opportunity to acquire a true classic from one of America's most celebrated mineral localities.
Measurements: 4.76 x 3.58 x 0.33 inches (12.10 x 9.10 x 0.85 cm)
