Description

Fluorite on Feldspar
Medina, Minas Gerais, Brazil
28 x 23 x 22 cm (11.02 x 9.06 x 8.66 in)

Extremely unique combination of intergrown, glassy cubes of translucent "grape" purple Fluorite that formed on sizable crystals of tan to off-white Feldspars. While the varying sized Fluorite cubes, up to 4.4 centimeters, have an uncommon very slight curvature to them, the truly unique features are the irregular yellow-green and red internal phantoms and inclusions that abruptly "pop" out with lighting in random orientations within the main cubes. The rotated red phantoms appear to be a previous partial coating that has since been included by the last purple Fluorite phase. These act as a boundary to the internal early growth that also happens to have a strong yellow-white fluorescence. The Feldspars are well defined and sharp with the largest measuring an impressive 14.5 x 8.3 centimeters. They have a partial etching on many of the faces and have a strong orange fluorescence. A mesmerizing and intriguing specimen in both normal and fluorescent lighting.

From the collection of Daniel "Dan" R. Kennedy.

More Information: The piece is in excellent condition with only minor bruising.
