Description
NWA 13366 Martian Meteorite SliceMartian (shergottite)
Algeria
Found: 2019
While this thin meteorite slab only weighs a scant 8.5 grams, the total known weight of the NWA 13366 single stone fall was only 417 grams. The meteorite is classified as a shergottite, meaning it is Martian in origin. Found in Algeria in 2019, this lherzolitic variety is rich in Olivine, so not surprisingly, it displays a light greenish dominant hue against a wonderfully black background. The ultramafic rock had been cut into amazing slices like this dramatic offering with a high polish over its finished side. Martian material is rare in general, and even a small sample, especially one this visually striking as this is a finer specimen, is worthy of any display case. Martian varieties account for less than 300 of a total of 72,000 classified meteorites.
Measurements: 1.72 x 1.43 x 0.10 inches (4.38 x 3.63 x 0.26 cm), weighs 8.5 grams
