Representing a most unusual, uncommon, and somewhat unbelievable phenomenon, this piece of Fulgurite from the Sahara Desert, of Egypt, was the result of a lightning strike hitting the ground with the effect of fusing Silica into a new "mineraloid" glass. Often referred to (incorrectly) as "fossilized lightning" by many, that vernacular term does offer an appropriate interpretive description for such material. The exquisite, delicate, and supremely collectible example measures a very significant 11 inches (28 cm) in length and comes presented on a custom black metal armature. Boasting a nice, dull, gray, and pink coloration, the "bumpy" hollow tube is surreal in terms of considering what it actually represents. With a sort of 'sparkle' to the intensely textural exterior, the natural and sculptural form looks more like some work of Modern art than some naturally occurring piece of glass. A bona fide conversation starter, if there ever was one, this specimen, as displayed on the stand, is sure to demand a lesson in science from the owner to the viewer. This is a top-tier Fulgurite on every count.
