Description

Native Copper (Spinel Law Twin)
2800 ft. Level, Seneca Mine, Mohawk, Keweenaw Co., Michigan, USA
21.0 x 9.4 x 2.8 cm (8.27 x 3.68 x 1.09 in)

A rather large and impressive specimen of crystallized Native Copper from the Seneca Mine! The elongated portion of this Copper consists of a distinctly chunky Spinel Law Twin, with the twinning plane striking through the center of the specimen, interrupted only by an unusual window of negative space that sits right in the center of this spear-like form. A combination of the vibrant, metallic luster and slightly darker areas of patina creates a nice contrast that highlights the many unusual striations across the specimen. The symmetrical twinned crystal is accompanied by a "sidecar" at the very bottom, creating a checkmark silhouette. At 21 centimeters in height, this is a substantial and hefty example of this twinning law, which typically forms much finer and smaller crystals; rarely anything quite like this.
