Description
Smoky QuartzRist Mine, Hiddenite, Alexander Co., North Carolina, USA
14.7 x 7.7 x 6.2 cm (5.77 x 3.01 x 2.45 in)
Although the Rist Mine is considered to be the most important source of Emerald in North America, the Smoky Quartz specimens found from this locality are no less impressive. Much of this large crystal is covered in macromosaic structures, creating noticeable indentations across the crystal faces. Pairing this with a powerful glassy luster creates a uniquely radiant appearance that is bright, and compliments the uniquely dynamic inclusions and color variations within the crystal itself. Small amounts of black associated species are located along some of the edges and subsurface of the piece; whereas the back of the specimen has modest, gray-green Muscovite crystals. The tip of the specimen does have some minor damage. Other instances of light bruising and contacts are present primarily along the sides of the specimen.
