Description
Gibeon Meteorite End Cut - 3,534.4 GramsIron, IVA
Namaland, Namibia - (25° 30'S, 18° 0'E)
Found: 1836
An unusual end cut meteorite, this specimen of Gibeon weighs over 3.5 kilograms (7.7 pounds) and features a rustic, smooth cut and polished metallic primary display surface. A single extremely large and rare Troilite inclusion, with an elliptical shape, is prominent at the periphery at one edge of this massive offering. Measuring nearly 10 inches (25 cm) across, the piece is broad in addition to being heavy. The natural exterior boasts multiple, deep 'scalloped' regmaglypt craters consistent with an example of Gibeon Meteorite. Minor rusting, smooth silver caps, and a highly undulating texture all combine to result in this representation of singular appearance. While the condition is not ideal, this is a captivating combination of contrasts and characteristics sure to appeal to any collector of Irons.
Measurements: 9.65 x 5.00 x 2.24 inches (24.50 x 12.70 x 5.68 cm), weighs 3,534.4 grams
Provenance: Private Central California Collection
