Description
Woolly Mammoth UlnaMammuthus primigenius
Pleistocene
Alaska, USA
Presented in a vertical orientation on a custom, sculptural Missouri Cherry wood base with a metal pin rod, this bone, measuring nearly 30 inches (76 cm) long, is beyond visually impressive. The Ulna from a Woolly Mammoth, this magnificent fossil, from the Ice Age, has a virtually complete end that shows the full "ball socket" in excellent form. This elongated remnant from the Pleistocene exhibits a mottled appearance featuring an overall softer brownish hue with whitish accents. The opposite end of the long bone shows minor wear but is mostly intact. This piece from Alaska represents a Woolly Mammoth of the Mammuthus primigenius variety and is certainly a serious piece from one majestic beast. A centerpiece fossil, on a base that is a piece of art, in its own right, this specimen will surely turn whatever room it finally graces into a sort of museum. This offering weighs 35 pounds (15.9 kg).
Bone Measurements: 29.92 x 14.17 x 9.45 inches (76.00 x 36.00 x 24.00 cm)
More Information: The accompanying image is an artistic interpretation, based on knowledge from the fossil record and ancillary factors, of the potential appearance of the above extinct animal. Please note the rendering does not accompany the Lot.
