The arrangement of matrix and crystals of this Fluorite specimen is excellent: the focal crystal is just off-centered on the Quartz, and is shaped as a single perfect cube: 3.6 centimeters on the edge, a great size, especially for this quality. The color is especially deep: icy blue core/interior, and violet zoning around the outside that deepens dramatically in the very edges, like ink in water. Flanking this Fluorite, in a small, curved crest on the side of the matrix, are more small Fluorite crystals. The luster on all of these Fluorites are remarkably glassy, and the largest Fluorite has a subtle surface texture or growth irregularities that throw light around nicely. The matrix is monochromatic, which lets the Fluorite colors take the forefront. The host rock consists of small Quartz crystals, with accents of white tabular Calcite around the edges. This is an unusual presentation of Fluorite from the Shangbao Mine, which is better known for its stepped dodecahedral crystals. The qualities of this piece seem almost handpicked from the best of both Yaogangxian and Shangbao, and blended together into an excellent display specimen. The condition is near-impeccable, with only a few tiny nicks here and there.
