Like many American Folk artists, very little is known about Jessie Volah Swindell. However, she was not entirely self-taught, having achieved her Vocational Certificate in Commercial Arts and Domestic Arts 1921 in Denton, Texas. What we do know is Plowing the Field is a compelling example of the naive in Texas art.
