Description

Seven Ethnographic Paddles
South Seas and North America, early 20th century

Wood. Six with pointed blades, two with blades incised in geometric patterns. The longest double bladed, probably for a North American kayak, with an old sticker on one end "South Sea Islands/ 22/4 / YuL", and copper wire wrapped around joint of one blade and handle to strengthen a weak spot. All in good condition, probably original as collected, tip of one missing, two with blades deficient on one side.
