The horse and buggy with their driver, seen at the upper left of this preparatory sketch, appear again in Buhot's most famous print, La Fête nationale au Boulevard Clichy, executed in 1878 to commemorate the recovery of Paris following the Franco-Prussian War and the Commune. A Montmartre street scene dominates the final work, but the margins of the print are not without excitement; in the surrounding vignettes, Parisians celebrate across the city, including, in a panel in the upper half of the left edge, a familiar horse and his driver.
