PROVENANCE:
Private collection, Paradise, California.
Olaf Wieghorst once expressed his deep admiration for horses, stating, "To me, the horse is a noble animal, embodying grace, strength, and freedom. In each stroke of my brush, I strive to capture not just their physical elegance, but the soul that resides within." He once wrote "Horses have been my life. I try to paint the little natural things, the way a horse turns his tail to the wind on cold nights, the way he flattens his ears in the rain . . . and the psychology of his behavior." His paintings are not merely portraits of horses but are imbued with the essence of their being, reflecting Wieghorst's profound understanding and appreciation for these creatures that so significantly shaped the American landscape and spirit.
