A Cased Andrew Ross Binocular Compound Microscope, circa 1844-187610-1/4 inches high (26.0 cm) (base)
PRIVATE WEST COAST COLLECTION
The microscope marked "ROSS London 4093" on the foot, "Wenham's Binocular by Ross London" on bottom of binocular tube assembly. Calibrated fine focusing through the arm, rack and pinion adjustment to the substage assembly which also has a rotary movement via rack and pinion, spring-loaded x-y adjustment. Substage attachments include achromatic condenser, wheel of apertures and rotating dark-well. Similar to the 1861 Exhibition Binocular Bar Limb-Model. 3 Ross objectives and 2 oculars. Fitted mahogany case. Stand likely dates to 1876.
Note: When this stand was upgraded to a Wenham binocular there was room in the case for the new tube but the case was not retrofitted to accommodate the new tube.
Condition Report*:
Varying degrees of scratching to brass surfaces, some original components appear to be missing, mahogany case likely refinished to exteiror, with wear commensurate with age and use. Optics not guaranteed.
