Lalo Cota, a muralist from Phoenix, Arizona, has brought new life to the city's skyline through his vivid murals. Known for placing a hidden logo in the eye of each portrait-an Aztec symbol meaning "a drop in the river"-Cota believes decay is a natural part of life, so he avoids protective coatings. Born in Navojoa, Sonora, Mexico, and raised in Phoenix from age eight, he grew up immersed in Día de los Muertos traditions and the bold designs of lowrider cars, both of which deeply shaped his art. His skeletal imagery and southwestern themes have made him a local icon. Cota credits his success to following his instincts and passion, saying it's led to "less stress and more money." His murals, seen on buildings like Conspire and along Roosevelt Street, are tributes to his hometown and community. As he puts it, "I want to influence people even when I am gone... I do need an audience-that's what fuels me to work."
