Not only the centerpiece of Geoff Notkin's collection, as well as this auction, is this exceptional AAA-grade Campo del Cielo individual, which is truly massive and weighs 68 kilograms (150 pounds). The absolutely museum-quality specimen is oriented and fully covered in fine, overlapping regmaglypts. Of literally "tons" that Geoff Notkin has seen over his long and storied career in meteorites, this is definitely the BEST and his favorite, evidenced by the fact that it is the one he kept for his personal collection!! A noted meteorite professional once remarked on this specimen, "That is a meteorite's meteorite," which is an extremely apropos way to put it. A further testament to the singular and superlative nature of this meteorite is that the finder from whom Notkin had purchased it actually wanted to buy it back from him. A Campo del Cielo Meteorite of such immense size, superb aesthetics, and classic appearance is a veritable once-in-a-lifetime proposition. The colossal iron is highly dimensional but boasts a manageable size due to a serious density consistent with it being an enormous mass of extraterrestrial nickel-iron. The relative compactness of its form would allow for an incredible presentation on a pedestal as a sculptural yet, natural work of art. A truly superlative complete individual with abundant "thumbprinting" caused by ablation when entering Earth's atmosphere, this big and beautiful meteorite has a complex surface as well as an incredible pattern of undulating indentions. Fully cratered, this meteorite really does look the part with a near-perfect combination of color, texture, and shape. This is one incomparable meteorite.
