Chicago-based artist José "Marcos" Raya fuses Mexican heritage, social commentary, and surrealism into politically charged works that confront technology, power, and cultural decay. Influenced by Dada and Rasquachismo traditions, Raya's assemblages transform found materials into visual narratives of resilience and identity. His murals and mixed-media works incorporate Chicano imagery and challenge modern society's obsession with money, sex, and control. Through projects like Los hijos de la mala vida, Raya reflects on personal redemption and the intersection of personal and collective history.
