Biography:
McClelland Barclay (1891–1943) was an American illustrator and designer known for his elegant commercial artwork during the early 20th century. His illustrations frequently appeared in popular magazines and advertising campaigns, where he became especially recognized for his stylish portrayals of fashionable women. In addition to illustration, Barclay created decorative metalwork, jewelry, and sculptural designs influenced by the Art Deco style. He later served as a U.S. Navy combat artist during World War II and was killed in 1943 when his ship was sunk in the Pacific.
