Biography:
Robert Louis Thompson, also known as Bob Thompson, was a native of Kentucky under a heavy influence of jazz and art. His first exhibitions were held in the Kentucky area from 1958-1960. In 1961, Thompson and his wife moved to Europe where he studied the masters. The unique style of Thompson blends Baroque and Renaissance with abstract expressionism. Early on, his art consisted of mainly earthy tones and large groups of figures. Thompsons returned to America in 1963 and began to utilize brighter colors. He also focused on a particular event rather than depicting a large scene. Thompson was inspired by the concept and relationships between good and evil, chaos and order, and man, animal and nature. Though his career was brief, Thompson left a legacy of over 1000 paintings and a lasting impression on the art world.
