Biography:
Rita Hoffman Shulak was born in the late 1940s in Iowa and received her first art training at the Iowa Art Center Museum at the young age of 4. In addition to being a self-taught artist, she has attended several universities including Ohio State University and the University of Colorado, as well as the Athenaeum School of Art. She has also studied privately with individual artists. As she has stated, she "is a continual student focusing on new design and the techniques of the masters and learning how to free the spirit into a right brain experience." Shulak's dramatic use of color and brushwork creates dynamic and beautiful works of art, which have been widely exhibited and have won first place in several major art competitions in addition to numerous awards. As a member of the Carlsbad Oceanside Art League (COAL), she has exhibited in Carlsbad's sister city of Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic at an art festival sponsored by the Carlsbad Sister City Ambassadors.
