Born 25 October 1889; died 27 February 1972. Sven Markelius attended the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, from 1909 to 1913. He studied architecture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Stockholm, from 1913 to 1915 and worked as a private architect from either the 1910s or 1915. He taught construction science at the Stockholm Polytechnic from either 1937 to 1939 or 1941 and was director of the Planning Regulation Office, Stockholm, from 1944 to 1954. Markelius served on the Architects Advisory Panel for the Unesco Buildings, Paris, France, from 1952 to 1958 and on the Unesco Arts Committee in 1954.
