Biography:
Andrew Loomis is a popular artist that died in 1959. Born in Zanesville, Ohio he spent the majority of his life working in Columbus, Ohio as a popular artist who created numerous books. He went to school for the arts at the Art Students League of New York. One of his first books was "Fun With a Pencil" which was released in 1939 and was one of his most popular works.
Andrew Loomis' life and works have influenced any number of artists from the time he was relevant up to even contemporary artists such as Alex Ross who has been a very successful comic book artist for Marvel Comics for an extended period of time. Titan Books has even gone so far as to reissue Loomis' works in the past few years citing them as excellent works and utilizing them as collectibles.
Some of his other works that have been popularized were books such as: "Creative Illustration," "Drawing the Head and Hands," and "Figure Drawing for All it's Worth." These are all instructional books that help teach the reader to draw the specific pieces related to the book such as the head and hands. Most of Loomis' work was fairly realistic and that tended to be the focus of his books.
Andrew Loomis was an artist ahead of his time. His drawings were impeccable and his ability to help others to learn to draw in a similar manner was an amazing gift that he gave to the world for nearly nothing at all.
