Biography:
Leonard Sempolinski (1902-1988) was one of the foremost figures in documentary photography in Poland after World War II. He most willingly recorded changes, the passage of time and its traces in urban matter and structure. He also carried into effect the idea of documenting the ruins of Warsaw in 1945. In his archive time and memory are strictly connected with space and matter, not only these of the city and its monuments, but also of photographs. Every picture became a peculiar space of time, material representation of memory and history.
