Biography:
Frank Kozik's early years were shaped by living in Spain under the rule of fascist dictator Franco, an experience that profoundly influenced his artistic path. He embarked on his creative journey in Austin, Texas, fueled by his passion for the growing underground punk rock scene in the early 1980s, where he embraced the art of concert posters. As a self-taught artist, Kozik eventually transitioned to creating large, vibrant works, which achieved international acclaim. During this period, the majority of his posters and album art were meticulously silkscreened and individually numbered at his studio. He has crafted artwork for a diverse range of musicians, including Pearl Jam, The White Stripes, The Beastie Boys, Green Day, Neil Young, The Sex Pistols, and Nirvana, and directed music videos, such as Soundgarden's "Pretty Noose". In 1995, he founded his own record label called Man's Ruin Records where he designed and released the debut single of Queens of the Stone Age. In later years, Kozik closed Man's Ruin to focus entirely on fine art, design, and the emerging art toy movement. He currently collaborated closely with Kidrobot and others to produce his iconic Labbit character and other limited edition figures. Kozik has collaborated with major media and lifestyle brands, such as NikeSB, Swatch, Spike TV Video Games Awards, and "Absolut Kozik" print ads. He established his own brand, Ultraviolence, in 2007 and crafts limited edition art objects in vinyl, fiberglass, bronze, and Limoges porcelain, often featuring more intricate content and larger dimensions compared to his vinyl toys.
