Geisel received his undergraduate education at Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H., and conducted his postgraduate work at Lincoln College, Oxford. He served in the army during World War II and later became an editorial cartoonist for PM newspaper in New York City. In 1958, Theodor Seuss Geisel founded Beginner Books, Inc., which later became part of Random House. His first book was published in 1937, and was titled " And To Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street." Geisel created two documentary films, both of which won Academy Awards. From 1948 until his death, he annually performed a children's workshop at the La Jolla Museum of Art.
