Robert Frank (American, 1924-2019)

Rober Frank was born 9 November 1924. From 1940 to 1941 Frank worked as an apprentice in a Basel, Switzerland photographic studio. From 1943 to 1944 he worked as a photographer for Gloria Films, Zurich, Switzerland. He then worked as a freelance photographer in Zurich until 1947.
Frank emigrated to the United States in 1947 and settled in New York City. In 1948 he visited Peru and Bolivia, and from 1949 to 1951 he worked in England, Wales, United Kingdom and France.
In 1955 Frank travelled across the United States taking photographs for his book 'The Americans'. From 1957 to 1969 he worked as a photographer, filmmaker and independent producer in New York City, New York. From 1960 to 1963 Frank photographed in Tennessee. From 1966 on Frank devoted himself to filmmaking, only occassionally working in photography. In 1969 Frank moved to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Frank died in 2019.
