Born in Innsbruck, Austria, of Italian parents, 14 September 1917. Educated in Turin, 1928-1934; studied architecture at the Polytechnic, Turin, 1935-1939, Dip. Arch. 1939. Associated with the designer Luigi Spazzapan, Turin, 1937-1940. Since 1946 in private practice as architect, and since 1958 as an industrial designer, Milan. Principal, Sottsass Associati, Milan, since 1980. Designer Consultant to the Olivetti Company since 1958; established additional office for Olivetti at Ivrea, near Turin, 1960. Founder-member, Global Tools group, Milan, 1975. Worked with Studio Alchymia designers. group, Milan, from 1979. Founder, Memphis design group, Milan, 1981. Designed chairs and a table for the Shaughnessy House (Montréal, Québec).
