Biography:
Edward Herbert Barnard executed airy Impressionist landscapes throughout his native Massachusetts. Born in Belmont in 1855, he began his formal training in architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and in painting at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, before honing his painting talent at the Académie Julian in Paris with Gustave Boulanger and Jules Lefebvre. An exhibitor at the Art Institute of Chicago, Boston Art Club, and National Academy of Design, Barnard taught at Bradford College, Haverhill, Massachusetts, from 1890-99.
