Kongsberg Silver Mining District, Kongsberg, Buskerud, Norway
It's odd that Silver specimens from Kongsberg should be one of the "Gold" Standards of mineral collecting, but based on bullion value versus specimen value, Kongsberg Silvers have been consistent winners. This Kongsberg "wire" Silver displays a swirling group of wires, about 2.5 inches across: it could be mistaken for a wind-blasted tree, as far as form goes. One of the wires makes a complete loop: something rarely seen in minerals - Bisbee Calcites being excepted. Speaking of Calcites there are several visibly growing on the wires and surrounding the base of the group as it emerges from the matrix. This classic Native Silver specimen is in superb condition.
Overall measurements: 2.11 x 1.625 x 3.5 inches (5.42 x 4.2 x 8.9 cm). Offered at no reserve.
Provenance: Keith Proctor [Hoppel Catalog # D1824]
