Ojuela Mine, Mapimí, Mun. de Mapimí, Durango, Mexico
Few minerals have captured the eyes of the collecting community the way that Legrandite has. The bright, golden yellow color is not just a rarity among the various colors of minerals, the mineral that possesses this golden hue is extremely rare in it own right, with only two localities producing specimens that are other than microscopic in size. This parallel spray of golden blades over an inch (2.5cm) in length fan out in a radiating fashion from a matrix of reddish-brown "Limonite" quite typical of Ojuela Mine specimens. There are some breaks along one edge, but with a mineral this rare, in this size - that's like quibbling about rust spots on the wire wheels of a Ferrari.
Overall measurements: 3.5 x 1.5 x 1 inches (8.9 x 3.8 x 2.5 cm).
Provenance: Collector's Edge [Hoppel # D1352]
