MAXFIELD PARRISH (American, 1870-1966)
Fisherman on Pier, LIFE Magazine cover, August 25, 1921
Oil over engraver's proof on board
15 x 12 in.

This classic LIFE cover by Parrish is a true gem, featuring a charmingly comical self-portrait of the artist on his trademark glowing blue sky. As was Parrish's practice, the oil painting was done directly on an engraver's proof copy made from the artist's first version of the painting, as a guide for the final, printed, magazine cover.

Condition Report*:

Very good condition. Framed under glass to an overall size of 18.75 x 15.75 inches.

Parrish, Maxfield:American painter and illustrator Maxfield Parrish was one of the foremost illustrators of the 20th century, set apart by his unique style. He mastered effects of light and shade, employing a painstaking shading technique and luminous colors, particularly a bright blue. His famous painting "Daybreak," sold millions of copies as a print and has been used in print and television advertisements.
