Dated 1830. Awarded to Pierre Auguste Renoir at the 1883 Foreign Exhibition. Labeled Bostonia 1830, with plaques of Europe, Asia, Africa and America separated by four crests, suspended on a red, white and blue grosgrain ribbon, in a hinged leather case labeled Henry Mitchell, Boston, Mass, USA.
Renoir was awarded this medal for exhibiting his paintings at the Boston 1883 Foreign Exhibition alongside fellow Impressionist painters Monet, Pissarro, Sisley and Manet.
