"While the subject -- the title is given on the nameplate -- cannot be identified, two other paintings by Jasper F. Cropsey, Autumn, Bashbish Fall, by 1858, oil, unlocated, no. 1637, and Bashbish Falls, Berkshire County, by 1863, oil, unlocated, no. 1328, reveal that at some point in his career he was in the area" (Newington-Cropsey Foundation Object Research File).

This painting is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the Newington-Cropsey Foundation and will be included in the catalogue raisonné of Cropsey's works, to be published by the Newington-Cropsey Foundation.

Condition Report*: Conserved 1" hole in tallest tree in upper left quadrant; minor dots of in-painting in upper right corner and lower left corner; signature and date appear to have been partially reinforced; otherwise very good condition; frame dimensions:  14.25 x 12.5".
