Old partial inscription in pencil on paper tape adhered to lower stretcher bar: Van der
PROVENANCE:
Private collection, Maine, to a family trust, Savannah, Georgia.
This painting will be included in the forthcoming John F. Kensett catalogue raisonné being compiled under the direction of Dr. John Driscoll and will be accompanied by a signed photo certificate.
Condition Report*:
Very good condition on original stretcher bars and in period frame. UV examination reveals no tears or patches despite the presence of a 1 1/2 x 1/2 inch strip of card-backed canvas adhered to back of canvas. This strip contains adhesive residue on its surface which suggests it may have once held a label of some kind. Small areas of inpainting at upper corner regions. Otherwise no restorations.
