Condition Report*:
The following condition report has been prepared by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.:
This painting is in beautiful state. It may not have been recently cleaned and while it is probably slightly dirty and the varnish is slightly soft as a result of the passage of time, cleaning and varnishing should be carefully considered due to the tendency that these pictures have to reveal cracking which is not an issues at present, for instance in the upper left corner. My advice would be to freshen the varnish without cleaning the picture, so as not to disturb the delicate paint layer.
There seem to be no losses or restorations visible and it is unlikely that there are any. Above the shoulder of the reclining boy there is a fairly visible pentiment of Koch's original position of the shoulder and waist and there are mild drying cracks visible here and there, all of which are stable and to be expected. The painting should be very lightly varnished and hung in its current condition.
Framed Dimensions 38 X 43.5 Inches
