Description
THE COLLECTION OF PAUL GREGORY AND JANET GAYNORA NEOCLASSICAL-STYLE MIXED WOOD PIER MIRROR
Circa 1930
95 x 35-1/2 x 6 inches (241.3 x 90.2 x 15.2 cm)
The pitched pediment over a frieze and flanked by columnar form stiles centered by an arched rectangular mirror plate.
This tall Neoclassical-Style mixed wood pier mirror retaining traces of original paint belonged to Adrian, award-winning costume designer and couturier. After leaving Metro and the film industry, he opened an exclusive Beverly Hills couture atelier, where he designed magnificent evening gowns for an international clientele under the label "Gowns by Adrian." In the front window of his boutique, he utilized this wonderful mirror, posing mannequins in front if it in order to show the back of his dresses as well. According to Paul Gregory, "Once Adrian gave up his shop, Janet had that mirror in her place. She loved that old mirror. After she passed away, I put it in storage. Once I built this room [my gallery], I designed it with a high ceiling specifically to accommodate Adrian's wonderful mirror."
