Description
LEROY NEIMAN (American b.1927)Tyson vs. Spinks Once and For All, 1988
Acrylic on canvas
48 x 35 in.
Signed lower center
Artist LeRoy Neiman is known for his brilliantly colored, semi-abstract paintings. In 1954, a chance meeting with Hugh Hefner led to a longtime association with Playboy magazine for the artist. He is also well known for his extensive work illustrating sports figures and events. With his trademark Salvador Dali-esque mustache and ever-present sketchpad in hand, the eighty-year-old-plus Neiman remains a fixture at ringside for boxing's biggest events. This championship fight between Mike Tyson and Michael Spinks lasted only 1:31 seconds into the first round. The contest took place at the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey on June 27, 1988.
Provenance:
A Martin Lawrence Gallery is affixed to the back of this piece
