Dallas, TX - Heritage Auction Galleries has announced that Ed Beardsley, formerly of Bonhams & Butterfields Auctioneers and Appraisers in Los Angeles, CA, has joined the company as Vice President of Operations. In his role, Beardsley will work with Heritage's principals to grow the company, leading in initiatives to ensure excellent customer service, operational efficiency, and the strategic addition of new collecting categories at auction. Beardsley will also bring a special focus to Heritage's newer auction categories, including but not limited to: Fine Arts, Decorative Arts, Jewelry, Rare Books, Historical Manuscripts, Music & Entertainment, Natural History and Special Collections.
"I'm honored to partner with Heritage," said Beardsley. "I have great admiration for Heritage's innovations in the industry, and believe that we are equipped to increase business in many categories."
Heritage President Greg Rohan echoed that enthusiasm. "Ed brings a wealth of experience to the table," he said. "He's a well-respected voice within the auctions business and he embodies the leadership principles that Heritage stands for in the marketplace. We are sure his addition will translate into a higher profile for Heritage."
As Director of Operations at Bonhams & Butterfield, Beardsley was actively involved in business development, including acting as primary liaison for important consignors and the sale of their property, such as Joanne Carson and the Truman Capote Collection, Warner Bros. Studios and the Herter Brothers furniture, Project Angel Food and the Hollywood 100 Charity auction, among many others. This versatility allows Beardsley to hit the ground running, especially as it involves the company's national sales. Beardsley has also expressed his keenness to get involved with Heritage's very strong Regional focus.
"While Heritage is one of the U.S.'s leading auction houses, I am impressed to see that it is also playing a leadership role in the offering of local Texas art at auction," he said. "By virtue of its impressive staff and facilities in Dallas, and its easy-to-use sales platform, Heritage is well equipped to best represent both buyers and sellers in this, and all areas."
It could be said that Beardsley himself was a product of the auction business, as his parents were introduced at an auction 65 years ago. His grandfather on his mother's side, Stuart Bonham-Carter - an admiral in the British Navy in charge of convoys between Halifax and the U.K. - sent his family to live in Nova Scotia during World War Two. His father's family spent summers there, and the two met at an estate auction where she was further invited by Beardsley's aunt to visit the family in Philadelphia. It all started there with the purchase of some antique rifles, which adorned their home, and now reside in the residence of one of his six siblings.
"I can't wait to get started in Dallas," he said. "In my capacities at Heritage, I'll be looking to improve operational efficiencies, secure new buyers by expanding an already excellent mailing list, securing new sellers by increasing responsiveness to potential consignors and analyze the potential to bring in new sales categories."
