Atlee Marie Phillips was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. At that time, her parents J. O. "Dutch" Phillips and Mary Frances Phillips were already firmly established figures in the North Texas arts community. Atlee grew up working in their Fort Worth and Dallas art galleries. Throughout high school, she held an intern position in the Amon Carter Museum library for over three years. Atlee attended The Colorado College where she obtained a BA with a major in Art History. During college, she focused her studies on the development of modernism and worked as the Student Coordinator of the Coburn Gallery. Following her return from The Colorado College, Atlee completed another internship at The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. She then entered the graduate program at Tulane University in order to study Aztec and Colonial Mexican art. She was also lucky to find an enthusiastic mentor in artist and scholar, Stuart Gentling. After completing her coursework, Atlee donated her time to the post-Katrina recovery of New Orleans and worked at Kurt Schon Gallery.

Atlee recently returned to reside in west Fort Worth. As the Consignment Director of Texas Art at Heritage, she is building on her unique knowledge of Early Modern and Contemporary Texas art, as well as her studies in Texas history. She is looking forward to continuing her parents' work by raising the public awareness of Texas art, promoting Texas artists, and working with Texas art collectors.
