Heritage Western Art Auction Posts Impressive Results!
May 31, 2007 Fine Art Heritage Western Art Auction Posts Impressive Results!Dallas, TX: Heritage Auction Galleries' inaugural auction of Western Art, held May 24, 2007 in Dallas, Texas as part of Heritage's Fine Art Auction, realized more than $2 million, although after auction sales are still ongoing and are expected to push the total to even higher levels.
"Heritage presented the largest holding of paintings by the father of the Taos Art School, artist Joseph Henry Sharp, to have been offered publicly in many years," said Atlee Philips, Director of Western Americana for Heritage. "This resulted in what could only be described as a 'bidding frenzy' between collectors, dealers and museums."
"The first painter to visit New Mexico, Sharp is widely renowned for his images of Native American people and the magnificent landscapes of the West," Philips said. "In addition to Sharp, this auction included many of the most famous artists from the Taos, New Mexico colony's avant-garde movement. The results were phenomenal, with many of the paintings setting record prices."
Heritage's next Western Art auction will be held on October 21, 2007 in Dallas, Texas at the Anatole Hotel. For more information, please visit www.HA.com/FineArt.
