Superb Art Collection Comes to Auction!
DALLAS, TEXAS: During their lifetimes, F. Howard and Mary D. Walsh of Fort Worth, Texas were exceptionally generous patrons of the arts, supporting everything from hospitals and churches to arts programs and schools. They were also advanced collectors of American and European paintings, glass, silver, porcelain, and jewelry, which they placed in trust for the benefit of their grandchildren.
"The pieces in the Walsh Family Art Trust were acquired, primarily, from Newhouse Galleries in New York in the 1950s, 60s and 70s," said Dr. Edmund P. Pillsbury, Managing Director of Fine and Decorative Arts for Dallas-based Heritage Auction Galleries. "As art aficionados know, Newhouse Galleries also served as the primary source for works that formed the collections of Kay Kimbell, Amon Carter, and Sid Richardson, who later founded private museums as permanent legacies of their passion for art."
"The collection reflects the eclectic tastes of the Walsh family," Pillsbury said, "and includes masterpieces by such artists as Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, Jan Brueghel the Younger and Frans Francken the Younger, Blas de Ledesma, Tommaso Realfonso, Elisabeth Louise Vige-LeBrun, Sir Joshua Reynolds, and Thomas Moran. The breadth and depth of the collection is staggering, and reflects the care and the dedication that went into assembling it."
"With a collection of this scale and importance," Pillsbury said, "we feel it's best to present it over several auctions. The jewelry in the collection, for example, will be offered in our inaugural jewelry auction, to be held December 6, 2006, in our world headquarters in Dallas, Texas. The first part of the American and European paintings will be previewed in New York November 1 - 3 at 2 East 79th Street with an auction to follow on November 9 and 10 in Dallas. Decorative Art will be featured in a major auction on October 19 and 20 and additional items will be included in Heritage's monthly Marketplace Internet auctions, beginning this month."
"This is a fantastic opportunity for collectors of fine art to add some exquisite pieces to their holdings," said Pillsbury. "Many of these choice works have been off the market for decades, and may not be offered again for many years to come. I'd invite anyone interested to visit our website, www.HA.com/FineArt, to watch the auction grow."
