This lovely ad illustration was published in Life, Redbook, Library Digest, Good Housekeeping, Pictorial Review, and Women's Home Companion magazines in 1922 and 1923.

This popular piece was also reproduced on page 109 of All American Girl -- The Art of Coles Phillips by Michael Schau, Watson-Guptill, 1975; page 185 of Famous American Illustrators by Arpi Ermoyan, Society of Illustrators, 1997; and page 30 of The Great American Pin-Up by Charles Martignette and Louis K. Meisel, Taschen, 1996.

Coles:Phillips is best known for his image "The Fadeaway Girl," so-named for his technique of linking select dress parts of a woman to a background of identical color, creating an abstract pattern of shapes. Variations of this image appeared in "Saturday Evening Post," "Liberty," and "McCall's" magazines.. American artist, 1880-1927
