A California painter renowned for his landscapes, Silas Dustin studied with William Merritt Chase in New York and became curator of the National Academy of Design. In 1922 he moved to Los Angeles, where he established a studio and served as curator of the Biltmore Salon.

Very good condition; canvas has been reinforced with lining and restretched over new stretcher; some craquelure in sky, consistent with age; some retouching in lower right and upper left.
