From the Estate of Charles Martignette.

This painting is an illustration for the story "The Desert Healer", by E.M. Hull, published in Cosmopolitan magazine, 1922. "To Hosein, imperturbable even in the face of this unprecedented spectacle, Carew vouchsafed only the curt explanation, Abdul el Dhib." It was also reproduced on page 75 of Dean Cornwell: Dean of Illustrators by Patricia Janis Broder, Collector's Press, 2000. Estimate: .

Re-lined canvas; craquelure visible with scattered areas of inpainting; previous stretcher creases visible; otherwise in good condition. Framed to an overall size of 33 x 43 inches.
