UNIQUE AND HISTORIC BALLOONING SILHOUETTE MINIATURE OF JEAN PIERRE BLANCHARD1784
3-1/2 x 2-3/4 inches (8.9 x 7.0 cm)
Presented in original gilt metal frame, this highly decorative miniature painting on ivory commemorates Blanchard's first balloon ascent in Paris on March 2nd, 1784. Blanchard went on to make a further sixty-five ascents, including the first crossing by balloon of the English Channel.
